Colonic Hydrotherapy

The colon is responsible for eliminating the by-products of digestion and other wastes produced by the body, as well as protecting us from infection and disease.

In a normally functioning colon, this is achieved with the help of billions of friendly bacteria which inhabit the colon. This delicate balance can very easily be disrupted by a number of factors including stress, pollution, poor food and drink choices, certain drugs, exposure to toxic substances and smoking.

A toxic colon is a major factor in the development of food intolerances leading to chronic ill health. When the colon is abused by diet, stress, drugs, chemicals and other substances it tries to protect itself by producing more mucus. This additional mucus binds with the by-products of refined foods and builds up on the wall of the bowel causing narrowing of the passage. This impaction causes the colon muscles to become sluggish which slows down the flow of waste material preventing the absorption of vitamins. This layer of sticky, hardened faeces can weigh several pounds and is a favoured breeding ground for harmful bacteria. Toxins are then reabsorbed into the body causing many health problems.

The results of this imbalance can be seen as follows:

  • The healthy transit time of food through our bodies is less than 24 hours. On average in the UK it is now 60 hours for men and 70 for women.
  • The UK has the highest incidence of bowel cancer in the world with 20,000 new cases each year.
  • One in three people consulting a GP have a bowel problem such as IBS, colitis, constipation, Crohns disease, diverticulitis and yeast infections.

Colon hydrotherapy is a thorough, gentle and safe internal bath of the large intestine by a qualified therapist. It involves the introduction of warm filtered water though the rectum into the colon. The action of the water together with gentle massage techniques progressively softens faecal matter and compacted deposits. As the water exits the body through the evacuation tube it takes with it years of accumulated debris.

Your first visit will involve the taking of your medical history and questions about your diet and lifestyle. The procedure is explained to you along with information about how your digestive system functions. At this point you have plenty of opportunity to ask any questions. You will then be taken through to the bathroom asked to empty your bladder and put on a disposable gown. Your abdomen will be covered by a large towel so that your modesty is preserved at all times. A small disposable speculum is gently inserted into your rectum through which warm filtered water enters the colon. The therapist may assist the loosening of impacted waste by gentle massage. The water and waste products then leave the colon via an illuminated viewing tube straight into the fowl waste with no unpleasant smells or mess. This process is repeated a number of times to give you a thorough cleanse. Although the treatment is painless some may experience mild discomfort as the colon empties. You will then go through to the bathroom where you can freshen up in a luxurious bathroom with bidet, heated floor and showering facilities. You will then be given your aftercare plan along with any suggested dietary changes or supplement advice. This appointment takes approximately 90 minutes; further colonic treatments take approx 60 minutes.

Following a colonic you may carry on with your normal routine. Most people feel fantastic after a colon cleanse but some may feel quite drained, especially if they have had lots of old accumulated waste removed. As the bowel will have been cleansed considerably, it is fairly normal not to have another evacuation for anything between 24 and 72 hours.

The equipment we use is a state of the art Detolol machine; which is regularly checked and serviced. All equipment is pre sterilised and disposable. Surrounding areas are cleaned using hospital-approved disinfectant solutions, which kill all viruses, bacteria and fungi. The purified filtered water is introduced at low pressure and is constantly monitored along with the temperature. Colon Hydrotherapy, unlike the use of laxatives, is not habit forming and will improves the tone of the colon to help your bowels function better.

Most people even those on relatively good diets who have regular bowel movements have old hardened accumulations which hinder proper elimination and need periodic cleansing. Colon hydrotherapy can be beneficial for people suffering from many conditions including:

Constipation, diarrhoea, spastic colon, colitis, diverticulitis, sluggish digestive system, halitosis, headaches, flatulence, haemorrhoids, skin problems, abdominal bloating, allergies, fatigue, crohns disease, intestinal candida….. and many more.

It can also be beneficial prior to and following barium enemas and during therapeutic fasting. In the long term, regular colon cleanses could help reduce the risk of bowel disease and as the nutrients are better absorbed and utilised there are all-round health improvements.

An enema only reaches the rectum and lower part of the colon, whereas with colon hydrotherapy, the entire length of the colon (the large intestinal tract approximately 5½ feet in length) is reached. Colon hydrotherapy is many more times effective.
"One colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas."

With their toxic load diminished and their elimination improved, most people experience a feeling of:-

  • Lightness and well being
  • Renewed energy & vitality
  • Healthy & natural weight loss
  • Relief from bloating & constipation
  • Healthier, clearer complexion
  • The eyes regain a youthful clarity
  • Less muscle and joint pains
  • Helps mood swings, PMT and nervous anxiety
  • Improved mental clarity and fewer headaches
  • Improved bowel conditions

One session is great…. but a series can reverse a life time of neglect!
